Job Description

CARE began working in Zimbabwe in 1992 in response to severe regional drought and has since expanded programming to address longer-term development issues. Through strategic local partnerships, CARE is implementing both short-term and long-term programming to empower Zimbabwe’s vulnerable households to meet their basic needs through sustainable livelihoods. Today, CARE International in Zimbabwe has a diverse program focused on the following areas; Food and nutrition security; Climate resilient livelihoods; Economic development (including micro-finance, business development services, input and output markets); Education and Water, sanitation and hygiene. We have operational presence in Masvingo, Midlands, Masvingo and Manicaland provinces across 10 districts: Zaka, Chivi, Chiredzi, Mwenezi (Masvingo Province) Zvishavane, Mberengwa (Midlands Province) Buhera, Mutare Rural (Manicaland Province) and Norton (Mashonaland West).

Scope of assignment

CARE International in Zimbabwe is looking for a company or firm to design and develop their website. The website will enhance CARE Zimbabwe’s online presence while showcasing and disseminating CARE Zimbabwe’s humanitarian and development work to various stakeholders, partners and current and future donors in line with CARE International branding standards.

Deliverables

  • The Service Provider is expected to provide website development, hosting and maintenance for four months;
  • Specific deliverables include:
    • Methodology and work plan;
    • Draft web designs for review, integration of feedback and final approval;
    • Delivery of a fully tested and functional website integrated with other CARE Zimbabwe platforms;
    • Monthly maintenance for three months after development;
    • Train a minimum of three CARE staff on how to manage the new website and develop an easy to read user guide / training guide;
    • Full technical documentation (system code and system design) to enable smooth deployment, handover and ongoing maintenance and updates to CARE.

User experience and accessibility

  • Responsive design on mobile devices and other various devices including desktops / laptops;
  • Usable on (Windows and Mac), mobile phones and tablets (Android and iOS);
  • Compatible with all modern browsers and compliant with the international accessibility standards;
  • Optimal performance in low-bandwidth locations.

Design standards

  • Design should be in line with CARE International branding guidelines (to be provided);
  • User-friendly administrator interface for all features;
  • User-friendly front-end design and development to optimise public use.

Reporting relationships: The company will work in close consultation and under the supervision of the IT Manager and Communications Specialist who will assess the services and outputs of the firm.

Timeline and duration of assignment: The duration of the contract will be four months after the expected starting date of 1 May 2022. The time required to design, develop and test the website and the admin panel will be 30 business days. Three months will be utilised for maintenance and training.

Required skills and experience

The firm should have:

  • Proven experience of web design and support in the international development sector as well as extensive experience in developing in well-known and widely used open source platforms, such as Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, etc;
  • Strong track record in web site design; security and administration; Google analytics; Search Engine Optimization is an added advantage;
  • Interested Service Providers should submit the following:
    • Profile and experience of the company with details of at least 3 references;
    • CVs of the team of (programmers and designers) assigned to the work;
    • A work plan including start date and date of completion of deliverables, a proposed approach for the assignment based on the information provided above, including risk management and information on the proposed team and their roles;
    • The financial proposal. The budget should be broken down by activities.
