Job Purpose

To proactively identify funding; placement and distribution and trading opportunities within the money-market industry from a defined and targeted customer base to optimise net interest income (NII) and net income revenue (NIR) for Nedbank.

Job Responsibilities

  • Achieve Net Interest Income (NII) targets through the Implementation of Alco strategies; Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR); Funding requirements; Short/Medium/Long ratios and asset manager exposure.
  • Trade money market instruments by having an interest rate view; taking positions and managing the associated risks accordingly to achieve profit and loss targetsInitiate the placement and distribution of synthesis funding notes through auctions and private placements.
  • Build sound professional relationships with clients by organising/tailoring client networking functions and signature events as well as arranging road shows for synthesis and funding countrywide.
  • Attend to client’s requests through open communication; telephone; email; and Bloomberg messenger.
  • Develop trusting internal relationships by communicating with internal stakeholders e.g. informing them on current and expected Cashflows; market intelligence; pricing; hedging and client specific information and obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced processes.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with industry stakeholders through network building and communication Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc.)
  • Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g.. Green Strategy).Seek opportunities to improve business processes and systems by identifying and recommending effective ways to operate and adding value to Nedbank.
  • Contribute to making the department a great place to work through teambuilding activities; communication; improving how we do things to become more efficient / profitable.
  • Obtain Management Information System (MIS) data for decision making by generating reports and spreadsheets to manage risk; credit exposures; limits; regulatory; compliance and other requirements.
  • Ensure an overnight balance position meets internal policy requirements by squaring off daily the overnight trading positions with the Centralised Funding Desk (CFD).Effect deals and obtain information by booking trades on the relevant systems.
  • Adhere to risk standards by complying with regulations; mandates; limits; policies and procedures.
  • Maintain client information by updating internal and external client contacts.
  • Support the achievement of the business strategy; objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank and Business Unit Plan and ensuring delivered systems; process; services and solutions are aligned.
  • Identify training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from management.
  • Uplift the skills of the funding and liquidity team by mentoring and training others
  • Ensure all personal development plan activities are completed within specified timeframe.
  • Share knowledge and industry trends with team during formal and informal interaction.
  • Obtain buy-in for developing new and/or enhanced processes (e.g. operational processes) that will improve the functioning of stakeholders’ businesses by highlighting benefits in support of the implementation of recommendations.

Essential Qualifications – NQF Level

  • Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees

Preferred Qualification

  • B. Comm. Degree or equivalent

Essential Certifications

  • FSB Regulatory Examinations (RE 1) or ACI Dealing certificate and FAIS requirements

Minimum Experience Level

  • 10 + years experience in money markets, with working knowledge on interest rate hedging, derivatives and fixed income in a dealing room environment
