Job Description

Location: Chinhoyi Diocese
Responsible to: The Coordinator Justice and Peace

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and practicing Christians for the post of Project Officer – Governance and peacebuilding in the Catholic Diocese of Chinhoyi’s Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP). Duty Station is Chinhoyi, with frequent visits to various rural communities of Chinhoyi Diocese. CCJP will not be responsible for any relocation cost, if need be.

Job purpose

Working under the CCJP Coordinator, main responsibility of the Governance Officer is overall management of CCJP’s Youth Voices Forum Project. This includes project planning, implementation and daily management of activities. The project officer is expected to do all project related budgets for project costs and other related expenditures. He or She will work closely with other officers, and financial staff in developing, maintaining and ensuring adherence to budgets. This responsibility also includes reviewing the respective grant and develop future proposals. The Project officer is expected to build and maintain partnerships and relationships with project communities, other organizations, and other programmes within the Diocesan Commissions.

Key responsibilities

Programme Management (70%)

  • Lead in the development and implementation of the Youth Voices Forum project and any future justice and peace projects;
  • Implement and maintain a robust project management framework ensuring alignment with the goals and expected deliverables;
  • Ensure that risk and issues are identified within the project and relevant links are made with associated projects internally and externally, that management systems are followed, and risks and issues are actively reviewed with respective actions being assigned and tracked;
  • Ensure all project reporting requirements are met and provide support and guidance across related sectors within the organization in the management of the grant;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.

Monitoring and Evaluation (30%)

  • Develop the project’s monitoring framework, tools and plan & ensure that monthly, quarterly and annual reports are submitted to the funding partner by the scheduled deadlines;
  • Facilitate appreciation in YVF committees on the project’s data needs and interpretation of the project indicators and collate reports from communities to inform the project;
  • Develop case studies to document best practices and capture qualitative attributes of the project;
  • In liaison with the Finance officer, ensure key principles is maintained throughout the project implementation;
  • Support the process of end of project evaluation

  • Strong analytical aptitude and effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to handle effectively multiple tasks without compromising quality, team spirit and positive working relationships;
  • Ability to solve complex problems with minimal supervision;
  • Ability and demonstrated capacity to work in complex environment, including rural environments;
  • Facilitation and training skills;
  • Proficient in computer skills;
  • IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint are compulsory;
  • A Clean Class 4 Driver’s License and experience

Qualifications & experience

  • A Bachelors’ Degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Governance and Peace, or a related field is required;
  • MSc is in related field is an added Advantage;
  • Two-to-Three years of post-college experience, some portion in the non- governmental sector required with proven expertise in project management;
  • M&E expertise should be proven, with some evidence of field experience in project monitoring, evaluation, research and information management;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, ability to speak and understand any local community languages and culture is an added advantage;
  • Proven capacity to work in a multidisciplinary environment
