Job Description

CARE is set to implement a pilot project in Buhera district under the guidance of the World Bank and relevant government agencies. The pilot will aim to strengthen the government’s social protection structure, specifically BEAM, through layered social protection and WASH interventions to better addresses the needs of vulnerable adolescent girls through provision of: unconditional multipurpose Cash transfer to HH with learners under the BEAM programme, Income Generating Activities (IGA) grant to fund business plans for the same HH and School and Community level capacity Building and WASH Promotion Support.

Job Summary

To facilitate implementation of the Social Protection and WASH Interventions pilot project in Buhera District in line with agreed Donor, and project stakeholder requirements.

Key duties and Responsibilities

  • Reads and understands project documents such as proposals, log frames, project Operating Plan (OP) from APM.
  • Develops Individual Operating Plan (IOP) in line with project AOP and submits to the APM.
  • Prepares resource requests to carry out field activities and submits to APM.
  • Contributes to the development of overall project implementation plans which falls under the role.
  • Implement integrated project activities such as trainings, engagement, and distributions as per the agreed work plan and guidance from APM.
  • Provides school level technical support for activities of such as capacity building, sensitization meetings on sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence and menstrual hygiene management, among others.
  • Attends bi-monthly meetings for school staff focusing on WASH and distributes menstrual hygiene management kits.
  • Participates in project inception meetings, conducts community stakeholder leadership orientation and sensitisation meetings.
  • Supports households in setting up Income Generating Activities (IGAs).
  • Conducts community and school level hygiene promotion activities, distributes water purification tablets in schools and households.
  • Compiles activity reports and submits to APM.
  • Provides input during the preparation of project progress reports such as monthly and quarterly, reports or any other special reports.
  • Establishes and maintains relevant school and district level relationship with key stakeholders in furtherance of his/her work in close collaboration with the APM.
  • Represents the project at community and school level in stakeholder meetings

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Diploma in Education, Development or any related Social Science.
  • A related social science degree will be an added advantage.
  • 2 years’ experience in education, gender and community economic development.
  • Demonstrate ability to support establishment of community based income generating activities
  • Experience working with Government ministries, local authorities, Civic society organisations, adolescents and communities.
  • Good understanding of the education quality, equity and inclusion needs of rural communities and of appropriate ways of tackling them.
