Job Description

Transparency International Zimbabwe (TI Z) – a non-profit, non-partisan, systems oriented local chapter of the international movement against corruption seeks to recruit a Programmes officer – Community Engagement and Advocacy Officer based in Harare. Under the overall guidance of the Head of Programmes, the incumbent will be responsible for the mobilization of citizens as citizen activists against corruption, providing public education and awareness, planning creative campaigns to engage and empower the public for better understanding and participation in anti-corruption initiatives as well as enhancing the ability of the organisation to bring about policy change at national, regional and global levels by promoting sound and evidence-based policy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mobilising citizens through targeted programmes and activities to participate and lead in the fight against corruption, this includes-conducting anti-corruption public education to increase awareness and understanding amongst citizens on issues related to corruption so as to foster a culture that shuns corruption;
  • Building and supporting volunteer grassroots structures in designated provinces across the country through Accountability Monitoring Committees community structures;
  • Facilitating communities to engage local government, private sector and central government, to review, reform and monitor legislation and policies that promote standards of accountability, transparency and integrity;
  • Contributing to the organizations’ overall programming by mapping and analysing the existing citizen initiatives against corruption from the organisation and other communities and organizations;
  • Contributing to entire organizational proposal development and fundraising;
  • Contributing to monitoring overall progress and achievement of results and impact;
  • Assisting in monitoring the sustainability of programmes by analysing results to identify opportunities and strategies for expansion and continuity;
  • Developing and implementing programme specific advocacy initiatives and campaigns. This includes initiating and implementing communications strategies using traditional and social media to increase awareness and improve outreach, including promoting new methods of advocacy, campaigning and mobilization;
  • Leading on the development of the organisation’s key global advocacy messages and on the identification of strategic and targeted audiences that can act as agents of change. This also includes developing policy recommendations/ positions for targeted agents of change;
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual regional programming reports;
  • Be accountable for the programming budget, including the development of the budgets and timely, and accurate financial reporting (liquidations and petty cash reconciliations) in line with organisational and donor requirements

Required skills and experience

  • Bachelor of Arts/Social Science/ Political Sciences or equivalent;
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in the governance or Human Rights NGO sector;
  • A Masters Programme in the relevant field is an added advantage
