Job Description

The Program Accountant will work closely with Cluster Business Services Manager (CBSM), officers and Project team to ensure that the project maintains a high standard of accounting and financial control. The program Accountant provides essential support to ensure maximum impact of the project. Working under the authority of the BSM, the Program Accountant is responsible for the co-ordination of all financial matters relating to the work and operations in Zimbabwe as well as working with colleagues in the SAF Cluster.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • A professional accounting qualification such as ACCA and CIS would be a distinct advantage;
  • At least 4 years accounting experience;
  • Proven experience and ability in the following areas of finance:
    • Preparation of monthly and annual accounts to Financial Statements level,
    • Preparation of general ledger reconciliation,
    • Knowledge of local taxation laws,
    • Cash flow forecasting and management;
    • Budgeting experience for multiple cost centres,
    • Experience in working with multiple currencies;
  • Previous experience with an NGO, as well as with institutional donors, such as UN, EC, DFID and USAID is of distinct advantage;
  • Good knowledge and experience of all core financial management activities, including accounts payable, cash management, budget development, statutory requirements (particularly related to Zimbabwean standards) and standard accounts;
  • Strong numeracy skills and experience using a computerised financial management information system (such as PeopleSoft), and good computer skills (Excel, Word, Lotus Notes);
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Zimbabwean laws and legal issues related to financial matters;
  • A critical focus on providing a superior service level to managers and staff and delivering agreed results within time and budget constraints and to expected standards.
