The QA/QC Officer – Assistant Operation Manager is responsible for monitoring the operation and ensuring safe, quality and efficient operation, and assist the Operations Manager in the day-to-day operational management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • International Mine Action Standard (IMAS) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Level 3 qualification
  • At least 5 years experience of Mine Action Operations
  • Good organization and planning skills
  • Knowledge in the use of manual and electronic mapping is required
  • Good communication skills and ability to work within strict timelines
  • Fit and willing to work and live in a remote environment (Operations camp site)
  • Fluent English (written and spoken) and computer literacy
  • Conversant with Information Management System for Mine Action (IMSMA)

General Description of Position

  • Responsible for Quality Assurance (QA) of the operation in accordance with APOPO’s SOP and National Mine Action Standard
  • Conduct Quality Control (QC), monitoring and evaluation of operational tasks to ensure safety and effectiveness
  • Supervise operations and regular liaison with the assigned QA officer of ZIMAC
  • Assist the Operations Manager

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Supervise and Monitor APOPO’s landmine clearance operations and ensure implementation of all SOP’s drills
  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluation of operational tasks to ensure safety and effectiveness of the operations
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of all landmines and explosive ordnance in the area of operations
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge and awareness of all equipment used in the area of operations; and ensure it is maintained to its operational readiness
  • Conduct reconnaissance and survey of mine/UXO contaminated areas prior to clearance
  • Prepare and submit technical QC/QA reports to the Operations Manager and Programme Manager
  • Formulate and conduct training as required by line managers
  • Regularly visit each work site and work from operational campsites
  • Involve in amendments of programme’s standard operation procedures (SOPs) as required
  • Conduct or be part of the work-related accident / incident investigation committee
  • Serve as a deputy for the Programme Operations Manager
  • Support Operations Manager in updating of in-country SOP’s and working protocols
  • Represent APOPO mine action programme in meetings and with media as required

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain close collaboration and cooperation with the operations Team Leaders for input and analysis of mine action data and other relevant information
  • Adhere to the spirit of cooperation and teambuilding in the field and within the area of operations, both with colleagues and with regard to respect and cooperation with mine-affected communities
  • Maintain good cooperation with the assigned ZIMAC QA Officer
