Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Zimbabwean citizens to fill the vacant position of LEGAL AND RESEARCH OFFICER.

JOB PURPOSE

The position has the responsibility for contributing to the provision of comprehensive legal services and the identification of legal risks, in order to enable the work of the Authority to be undertaken within the appropriate legal structure.

This post reports to Director Legal Services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertakes research that assists Director Legal Services in advising Management on legal matters.
  • Assists with ensuring that conformance to statutory requirements is observed and that any areas of action or improvement are highlighted in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Provides support in documenting Legal office activities
  • Drafts and analyses Legal documents
  • Works with Director Legal Services in negotiation of terms and conditions of contracts with external parties
  • Assists Director Legal Services in work involving international organisations
  • Works with Director Legal Services to ensure legal best practice, efficiency, and effectiveness of procedures
  • Supervises the management of all legal documentation for the legal Office.
  • Works with Director Legal Services in managing the Panel of External lawyers
  • Undertakes all legal due diligence work required for the Authority
  • Files all claims for the Authority in cases where debtors are liquidated or placed under judicial management

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Degree in Law or the equivalent of a Bachelor of Law honours
  • 2-3 years’ experience in private practice, legal research organisation or in a commercial corporate set up
  • Experience in litigation will be an added advantage
  • A clean class four driver’s license.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.

REMUNERATION: An appropriate package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
