Job Description

National Building Society Limited seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced Head of Corporate and Institutional Banking to aggressively grow its market share in wholesale banking, in line with its aspiration to deliver competitive commercial banking services and affordable low-cost housing. Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head will be directly responsible for setting-up a Corporate Banking Division; formulating its policies and procedures to augment existing ones; and strategies to meet business development and revenue targets. In addition to his/her direct responsibility for Corporate Banking, the incumbent will also have oversight on the Treasury, Corporate Finance and Structured Finance departments.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement the corporate and institutional banking strategy to achieve short- and long-term business goals in the most effective and efficient manner.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategy and annual plans by the Corporate Banking, Treasury, Corporate Finance and Structured Finance Departments to ensure achievement of agreed targets / objectives.
  • Develop and ensure the provision of sound value propositions to existing / potential corporate banking customers by rolling out innovative corporate banking products and services.
  • Manage the development and implementation of market best practices across all activities / operations in Corporate and Institutional Banking to enhance efficiency and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and implement Service Level Agreements with branches and other departments to improve turn-around time and customer satisfaction.
  • Establish and maintain sound internal controls in the Corporate Banking Division.
  • Continuously comply with the policies / procedures and with prevailing compliance regulations
  • Address resource issues (e.g., manpower and systems) faced by the respective departments through timely liaison with other departments to enable them to meet their assigned targets.
  • Manage, control, monitor and assume responsibility for the Corporate Banking risk profile and portfolio quality in line with Credit policy regulations.
  • Monitor / review the Corporate Banking portfolio by segment or by other parameters such as product, corporate profile, or industry on periodic basis to evaluate quality and performance.
  • Lead the development of ‘early warning systems’ that highlight possible risk deterioration in the corporate Credit portfolio, in order to allow for timely corrective action and also monitor critical portfolio caps at required intervals and take prompt action when required.
  • Manage all staff administrative issues (e.g., leave schedule, training, appraisal, etc.) in accordance with established HR policies and procedures and take decisive action to ensure speedy resolution of any staff grievances or conflicts within the team.
  • Ensure high standards of confidentiality and ethics to safeguard commercially sensitive information.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • The successful candidate must possess a relevant Masters’ degree and at least 15 years of banking experience, with at least 5 years at senior managerial level in corporate banking within a reputable bank.
  • Good knowledge of the corporate banking business, product structuring and related risks
  • Working knowledge of bank operations, controls and people management
  • Ability to make decisions and follow through with action initiatives.
  • Outstanding analytical, planning, organizing and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (including report writing)
  • Personal integrity, self-motivation and self-management.
  • Familiar with the balanced scorecard.
