Job Description

Location: Masvingo
Start date: To be communicated with successful applicant
Duration of contract: One year with the possibility of extension (Based on performance and availability of Funding)

Introduction

A local NGO working in the area of promoting and advancing women’s rights, including women with disabilities is looking for a Disability Inclusion Officer. The organisation aims to empower women in their diversities economically, politically and socially through amplifying their voices all in local and national processes, creating platforms for engagement, capacity building and advocacy.

Job description

  • Develop and deliver unique and innovative projects in communities with people with disabilities and their families;
  • Build constructive partnerships with relevant external disability service groups or organisations;
  • Plan, develop and implement community capacity building projects;
  • Prepare clear and concise reports on relevant activities;
  • Perform such other duties as maybe assigned by the programs manager;
  • Lead and work with programs team and stakeholders to produce high quality and rigorous policy analysis with recommendations for changes in policy and practice;
  • Identify opportunities to influence key political figures and other stakeholders by keeping up to date with policy on all disability inclusion and disability rights;
  • Identify key gaps within communities and among people with disability so as to influence programs focus;
  • Liaise and inform key stakeholders and others on a regular basis by writing and disseminating briefings, submissions, articles, parliamentary questions and presentations as necessary.

Key result areas

  • Assessment of inclusive SRHR,GBV response, National and Local budget allocations and compliance to UNCRP;
  • A disability inclusion plan is developed and implemented including within the accountability system;
  • Relevant teams are aware of disability inclusion issues and supported to increase inclusion.
  • A disability message and appropriate language guide are produced;
  • Concepts notes for future disability projects are written and submitted;
  • Staff, partners, stakeholders and volunteers are aware of disability inclusion and understand how to include people with disabilities within the development processes;
  • Strong relationship with key stakeholders; Possible partners and possible donors are identified, relationships are built for future proposals.

Job specifications

  • A university degree, in social work, special need inclusiveness, psychology, development studies or other relevant areas;
  • Experience of working in the women-related sectors, programs and inclusion mainstreaming.
  • The preferred candidate must be a woman with visible disability;
  • Strong understanding of disability rights and inclusive education in particular
  • Knowledge of the disability sector and inclusive education in Excellent English – to enable representation at international level and preparation of reports
  • Ability to communicate and inspire others;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure, efficient task prioritization and time management;
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with the community;
  • Computer literacy (MS Office: WORD, EXCEL, PP, e-mail, Internet and Google talkback);
  • At least two years of professional experience,
  • Previous experience in communicating with evidence in compelling strategies, messages and position papers regarding disability inclusion,
  • Previous solid experience in capturing evidence in inclusion related areas,
  • Demonstrated solid experience in inclusiveness related;
  • Knowledge of disability inclusive programming,
  • Ability to support and develop staff and colleagues,
  • Excellent cross-cultural understanding and sensitivity,
  • Strong problem solving, interpersonal and communication / advocacy skills,
  • Critical thinking, analytical and decision making skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills: ability to establish harmonious and effective working relationships with people from different backgrounds and positions, Integrity, honesty, and accountability to both the organisation team and the community.
