Job Description

SIVIO Institute (www.sivioinstitute.org) is an independent organisation that seeks to contribute towards inclusive political and socio-economic transformation by ensuring that citizens are at the centre of processes of economic, social and policy change. SIVIO’s work entails multi-disciplinary, cutting edge policy research, nurturing citizens’ agency to be part of the change they want to see and working with communities to mobilize their assets to resolve some of the immediate problems they face.

Position summary

We are looking for someone curious, innovative and willing to explore new models of working and approaches to philanthropy in particular community philanthropy. The position requires someone with experience in working with different stakeholders/communities, has strong listening skills and can play a key advisory role.

Job description

The Coordinator will manage and lead the organisation’s work in the Centre for Philanthropy and Communities. Specifically, the Coordinator will:

  • Design and lead research initiatives on philanthropy in particular mapping and scoping research to identify community foundations and community-based forms of philanthropy;
  • Undertake research policy enablers and disablers to understand the extent to which the regulatory in Zimbabwe environment inhibits or promotes processes of local giving;
  • Design and support an innovative policy advocacy process to enhance philanthropy across Zimbabwe;
  • Working together with others design and develop an intensive short course on philanthropy;
  • Serve as a warehouse of information on philanthropy, encouraging all relevant stakeholders to tackle bigger questions around governance, democracy, socio-economic justice and equity;
  • Develop and run the re-granting facility

Qualifications

  • Education: A post-graduate degree in the Social Sciences;
    • A keen interest in philanthropy and particularly African philanthropy will be an added advantage
  • Specific work experience: at least 4 years work experience in a similar mid to senior level position.

We are looking for someone who possesses the following competencies:

  • Leadership: demonstrate creativity in leadership by rallying all internal stakeholders around the key goals and objectives of the organization;
  • Strategic Mindedness: Must demonstrate a keen awareness of contextual changes (demographic, socio-economic, socio-political etc.) and use the contextual and data to provide relevant technical support and advocacy to enhance prospects for the achievement of the goals of the centre;
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical to the success of this role. This Coordinator must be effective in persuading and influencing multiple audiences in both informal and formal settings.
