Job Description

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority invites applications from interested candidates who wish to be considered for the Chief Executive’s position which is currently vacant. The incumbent will serve an initial 5-year term contract and subject to satisfactory performance, the contract is renewable for a second term.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority is a Parastatal in the Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry established through an Act of Parliament; the Tourism Act of 1996 (Chapter]4.20) whose mandate is to plan, develop, manage and market Zimbabwe as a prime tourism destination in all source markets locally, regionally and internationally.

The position provides overall Strategic Direction of the ZTA towards the achievement of the company’s vision, mission and core values which is in line with the National Vision.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The incumbent reports to the ZTA Board of Directors

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are key duties and responsibilities which are further expounded:

1. Organisational leadership and management 

  • Corporate strategy formulation and review
  • Provision of leadership and guidance over the affairs of the ZTA
  • Policy formulation
  • Relationship management

2. Destination Promotion

  • Formulation and review of the Tourism Related Strategies
  • Managing destination image and perceptions in source markets

3. Destination Management

  • Industry human resources development
  • Maintenance of standards and compliance
  • Industry regulation
  • Brand management

4.Tourism Research and Product Development

  • Development of a diversity of tourism products
  • Provision of market intelligence
  • Consultancy and advisory services
  • Tourism investment appraisal

5. Institutional Capacity Development

  • Resource mobilization (budgeting and budgetary control)
  • Human Resources Management and Development
  • Performance Management

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A degree in Business Studies, Marketing or equivalent
  • +15 years in the tourism industry of which at least 10 years should have been at Senior Management Level
  • Proven record of work and experience in the tourism and hospitality industry is a distinct advantage
  • Post graduate degree is an added advantage
